It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The deceased is punished because of the weeping of his family over him. Someone mentioned this to Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), so Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: They are mistaken. In fact, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that the relatives of the deceased are weeping over him, and he is being punished because of his own sins.
