حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَت : خَرَجَتْ سَوْدَةُ لِحَاجَتِهَا لَيْلًا بَعْدَ مَا ضُرِبَ عَلَيْهِنَّ الْحِجَابُ ، قَالَتْ : وَكَانَتْ امْرَأَةً تَفْرَعُ النِّسَاءَ ، جَسِيمَةً ، فَوَافَقَهَا عُمَرُ فَأَبْصَرَهَا ، فَنَادَاهَا يَا سَوْدَةُ ، إِنَّكِ وَاللَّهِ مَا تَخْفَيْنَ عَلَيْنَا ، إِذَا خَرَجْتِ فَانْظُرِي كَيْفَ تَخْرُجِينَ ، أَوْ كَيْفَ تَصْنَعِينَ ؟ فَانْكَفَأَتْ ، فَرَجَعَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَإِنَّهُ لَيَتَعَشَّى ، فَأَخْبَرَتْهُ بِمَا قَالَ لَهَا عُمَرُ ، وَإِنَّ فِي يَدِهِ لَعَرْقًا ، فَأُوحِيَ إِلَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ رُفِعَ عَنْهُ وَإِنَّ الْعَرْقَ لَفِي يَدِهِ ، فَقَالَ : " لَقَدْ أُذِنَ لَكُنَّ أَنْ تَخْرُجْنَ لِحَاجَتِكُنَّ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that after the command of hijab was revealed, once Hazrat Sawda (may Allah be pleased with her) went out to relieve herself. Since she was tall and had a heavy build (people would recognize her), on the way she met Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He saw Hazrat Sawda (may Allah be pleased with her) and called out to her from a distance, "Sawda! By Allah, when you go out, you are not hidden from us, so see in what condition you are going out." Hazrat Sawda (may Allah be pleased with her) turned back and returned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). At that time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was having his dinner. She mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) what Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) had said. At that moment, there was a bone in the hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and at that very moment, revelation began to descend upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When that state passed, the bone was still in the blessed hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the same way, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "You have been permitted to go out for your needs."
