It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Barirah's husband was a free man. When Barirah was freed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her the choice of emancipation, and she chose for herself. Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) further says that her owners wanted to sell her, but regarding the condition of wala (inheritance), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): "You buy her and set her free, because wala, that is, the inheritance of the slave, is the right of the one who sets the slave free."
