It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a thief was brought to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the order regarding him and his hand was cut off. Some people said, "O Messenger of Allah! We did not think that the matter would reach this extent." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If my daughter Fatimah had been in her place, I would have cut off her hand as well."
