It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to one of his daughters (his granddaughter), who was in the throes of death. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took her and placed her in his lap, and in that state her soul departed. Tears flowed from the eyes of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Sayyidah Umm Ayman (may Allah be pleased with her) also began to weep. Someone said to her: Are you weeping in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? She replied: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is also weeping, why should I not weep? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am not weeping; this is mercy. When the soul of the believer departs from both his sides, he is praising Allah."
