It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once some Jews sought permission to enter the house of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "As-saam 'alayka" (which means: death be upon you). Hearing this, Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "Death and curse be upon you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Aisha! Allah likes gentleness in every matter." She said, "Did you not hear what they are saying?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I have replied to them: Wa 'alaykum (death be upon you)."
