Hadith 24067

Nafi', whose wife was the umm walad of Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), his wife says that once Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) bought a slave girl on the way to Makkah Mukarramah and, after freeing her, ordered her to accompany him for Hajj. Shoes were sought for her, but they could not be found, so he cut the socks below the ankles and made her wear those. Later, Safiyyah bint Abi Ubaid informed them that Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) had narrated to her this hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to permit women to wear socks, so he stopped doing that.
