It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once Bareerah came to her; she was a mukatabah (a slave woman who had a contract for her freedom) and had come to request help in paying off her contract. Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) asked her, "Do your owners want to sell you?" She went to her owners and mentioned this to them. They said, "Not until she accepts this condition: that your inheritance will go to us." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Buy her and set her free, for the right of wala’ (inheritance of a freed slave) belongs only to the one who sets the slave free."
