حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى مَيِّتٍ ، قَالَ : فَفَهِمْتُ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ عَلَيْهِ : " اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ ، وَاغْسِلْهُ بِالْمَاءِ وَالثَّلْجِ ، وَنَقِّهِ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا نَقَّيْتَ الثَّوْبَ الْأَبْيَضَ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) leading the funeral prayer for a deceased person, and I understood this supplication of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Allah! Forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him well-being, and pardon him. Make his abode an honorable place. Widen his place of entry (the grave). Wash him with water, snow, and hail. Cleanse him of sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. Grant him a better home than his home, better family than his family, and a better wife than his wife. Admit him into Paradise, protect him from Hell, and grant him salvation from the punishment of the grave."
