Hadith 23998

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ يَعْنِي أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي صَالِحُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرِيبٍ ، عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ ، عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ ، قَالَ : خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَوْ دَخَلَ ، وَنَحْنُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَبِيَدِهِ عَصًا ، وَقَدْ عَلَّقَ رَجُلٌ أَقْنَاءَ حَشَفٍ ، فَطَسَّ بِالْعَصَا فِي ذَلِكَ الْقِنْوِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " لَوْ شَاءَ رَبُّ هَذِهِ الصَّدَقَةِ تَصَدَّقَ بِأَطْيَبَ مِنْ هَذَا ، إِنَّ رَبَّ هَذِهِ الصَّدَقَةِ يَأْكُلُ الْحَشَفَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us, and in his blessed hand was a staff. At that time, some bunches of dates were hanging in the mosque, among which there was a bunch containing unripe dates. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) shook it with his staff and said, "If the one giving charity wished, he could have given more than this. This person who gave charity will eat unripe dates on the Day of Resurrection."
