حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي جُبَيْرُ بْنُ نُفَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَوْفٍ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى عَلَى مَيِّتٍ ، فَفَهِمْتُ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ عَلَيْهِ : " اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ وَعَافِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ ، وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ ، وَوَسِّعْ مُدْخَلَهُ ، وَاغْسِلْهُ بِالْمَاءِ وَالثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ ، وَنَقِّهِ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا نَقَّيْتَ الثَّوْبَ الْأَبْيَضَ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ ، وَأَبْدِلْهُ دَارًا خَيْرًا مِنْ دَارِهِ ، وَأَهْلًا خَيْرًا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ ، وَزَوْجَةً خَيْرًا مِنْ زَوْجِهِ ، وَأَدْخِلْهُ الْجَنَّةَ وَنَجِّهِ مِنَ النَّارِ ، وَقِهِ عَذَابَ الْقَبْرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) leading the funeral prayer for a deceased person, and I understood this supplication of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): O Allah! Forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him well-being, and pardon him. Make his abode an honorable place. Widen his place of entry (the grave). Wash him with water, snow, and hail. Cleanse him of sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. Grant him a home better than his home, a family better than his family, and a wife better than his wife. Admit him into Paradise, protect him from Hell, and grant him salvation from the punishment of the grave.
