حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْخَطَّابِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، أَنَّ بُكَيْرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَتْنِي قُرَيْشٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَعَ فِي قَلْبِي الْإِسْلَامُ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، لَا أَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ ، قَالَ : " إِنِّي لَا أَخِيسُ بِالْعَهْدِ ، وَلَا أَخِيسُ الْبِرَّ ، وَارْجِعْ إِلَيْهِمْ ، فَإِنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِكَ الَّذِي فِيهِ الْآنَ ، فَارْجِعْ " ، قَالَ بُكَيْرٌ : وَأَخْبَرَنِي الْحَسَنُ : أَنَّ أَبَا رَافِعٍ كَانَ قِبْطِيًّا.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that once some people of the Quraysh sent me to the service of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). As soon as I saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Islam settled in my heart and I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Now I do not want to return to the Quraysh." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I cannot break a covenant, nor can I detain envoys with me. Therefore, you should return now. If the intention in your heart remains the same as it is now, then come back to me." (So I went to them, then returned and presented myself in the court of Prophethood and was honored with Islam.)
