حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ السُّلَمِيِّ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَشْيَاءُ كُنَّا نَصْنَعُهَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، كُنَّا نَأْتِي الْكُهَّانَ ! فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا تَأْتُوا الْكُهَّانَ " ، قَالَ : وَكُنَّا نَتَطَيَّرُ ! قَالَ : " ذَاكَ شَيْءٌ يَجِدُهُ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي نَفْسِهِ ، فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكُمْ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Muawiyah bin Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him) that I asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! Tell me about the things we used to do in the days of ignorance, for example, we used to take omens from birds (what is the ruling on this?)" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "This was just a delusion of your mind; now it should not prevent you from doing anything." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! We also used to go to soothsayers?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do not go to them anymore."
