It is narrated from Hazrat Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) that when he reached near a city, he said to his companions, "Leave me so that I may present the invitation to them in the same manner as I saw the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) inviting." Then he said to the people of the city, "I was one of you; Allah has guided me to Islam. If you also accept Islam, you will have the same rights as we have. If you refuse, then pay the jizya and you will be in a state of subjugation. If you refuse even this, then we will respond to you equally. Surely, Allah does not like those who are treacherous." He continued in this manner for three days, and when the fourth day came, he advanced towards the city with the people and conquered it.
