Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) once asked the people, "Tell me about a man who will enter Paradise even though he never performed prayer." When the people could not identify him, they asked Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), "Who is he?" He replied, "Asairim, who belonged to Banu Abdul-Ashhal, and his name was Amr bin Thabit bin Waqsh." Husain says, "I asked Hazrat Mahmood bin Labeed (may Allah be pleased with him) about the incident of Asairim." He replied, "He used to refuse to accept Islam in front of his people. On the occasion of the Battle of Uhud, when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) headed towards Mount Uhud, he felt inclined towards Islam and accepted Islam. Then he took up his sword and set out.
He reached the people and entered their ranks, and fought with such bravery that eventually he fell wounded. When the people of Banu Abdul-Ashhal were searching for their slain, they also found him lying on the battlefield. They said, 'By Allah, this is Asairim, but how did he get here? When we left him, he was still a denier of this religion.' Then they asked him, 'Amr! How did you come here? Was it to defend your people or because of the attraction of Islam?' He said, 'Because of the attraction of Islam. I have believed in Allah and His Messenger and I have become a Muslim. Then I took up my sword and set out, and participated in jihad along with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Now, whatever wounds were destined for me, I have received them.' Shortly after, he died in their hands. The people mentioned him to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'He is among the people of Paradise.'"
