It is narrated from Hazrat Mahmood bin Labeed (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day when the son of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Hazrat Ibrahim (may Allah be pleased with him), passed away, the sun was eclipsed. People began to say that the sun was eclipsed because of the death of Ibrahim. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah; they are not eclipsed because of anyone’s death or life. When you see them eclipsed, then hasten towards the mosques. Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and, according to our estimation, recited as much as Surah Ibrahim, performed ruku‘, stood straight, performed two prostrations, and did the same in the second rak‘ah as he had done in the first.
