حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، وَحُجَيْنٌ , قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ أَبي الزُّبيْرِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بنِ عَبدِ الرَّحْمَنِ , عَنْ عَاصِمِ بنِ سُفْيَانَ الثَّقَفِيِّ , أَنَّهُمْ غَزَوْا غَزْوَةَ السُّلَاسِلِ ، فَفَاتَهُمْ الْغَزْوُ فَرَابطُوا ، ثُمَّ رَجَعُوا إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ ، وَعِنْدَهُ أَبو أَيُّوب ، وَعُقْبةُ بنُ عَامِرٍ ، فَقَالَ عَاصِمٌ : يَا أَبا أَيُّوب ، فَاتَنَا الْغَزْوُ الْعَامَ ، وَقَدْ أُخْبرْنَا أَنَّهُ مَنْ صَلَّى فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ، وَقَالَ حُجَيْنٌ : الْمَسَاجِدِ الْأَرْبعَةِ ، غُفِرَ لَهُ ذَنْبهُ ، فَقَالَ : ابنَ أَخِي ، أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى أَيْسَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ ، إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ كَمَا أُمِرَ ، وَصَلَّى كَمَا أُمِرَ ، غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا قَدَّمَ مِنْ عَمَلٍ " ، أَكَذَاكَ يَا عُقْبةُ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ.
Asim bin Sufyan Thaqafi says that he participated in the Battle of Dhat al-Salasil. On that occasion, there was no actual fighting, but fortification became necessary. Then, when they came to Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), Hazrat Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) and Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) were also present there. Asim said, "O Abu Ayyub! This year we missed out on jihad, and we have been told that whoever prays in the mosque will have his sins forgiven." He replied, "Nephew! Shall I not tell you something even easier than that? I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever performs ablution according to the prescribed manner and prays according to the prescribed manner, all his past sins will be forgiven." Uqbah, is it so? He replied, "Yes!"
