Hadith 23507

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, the Ansar drew lots to decide at whose house the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would stay. The lot came out in favor of Hazrat Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him), and he took the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to his house. It was the practice of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that whenever something was sent as a gift, he would send a portion of it to Hazrat Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) as well. One day, Hazrat Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) came home and saw a bowl in which there were onions. He asked, "What is this?" The family members replied, "The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has sent this." He went to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! You did not even touch this bowl?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "I saw onions in it." He asked, "Are onions not lawful for us?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Why not, you may eat them. However, those come to me who do not come to you (Jibreel Amin and other angels, peace be upon them)."
