ومن مسند بني هاشمFrom the Musnad of Banu Hashim
مُسْنَدُ عَبْدِ اللّٰهِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ رَضِيَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُمَاMusnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them)
Hadith 2350

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ ، حَدَّثَنِي مَنْصُورٌ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : " خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ يُرِيدُ مَكَّةَ ، فَصَامَ حَتَّى أَتَى عُسْفَانَ ، قَالَ : فَدَعَا بِإِنَاءٍ ، فَوَضَعَهُ عَلَى يَدِهِ ، حَتَّى نَظَرَ النَّاسُ إِلَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ أَفْطَرَ " , قَالَ : فَكَانَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ : مَنْ شَاءَ صَامَ , وَمَنْ شَاءَ أَفْطَرَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out from Madinah Munawwarah with the intention of Makkah Mukarramah. He was fasting, but when he reached the place of Usfan, he had a vessel brought and placed it on his hand so that everyone could see, and then he broke his fast. Therefore, Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say that a traveler has permission whether he fasts or not (he can make it up later).
