حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بنُ آدَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَبيب بنُ سُلَيْمٍ الْعَبسِيُّ ، عَنْ بلَالٍ الْعَبسِيِّ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا مَاتَ لَهُ مَيِّتٌ قَالَ : لَا تُؤْذِنُوا بهِ أَحَدًا ، إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَكُونَ نَعْيًا ، إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يَنْهَى عَنِ النَّعْيِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that when someone would die, he would say that no one should be informed about it, for I fear that this may be counted as "Nai" (public announcement of death), from which I heard the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding.
