حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ إِبرَاهِيمَ بنِ مُهَاجِرٍ ، عَنْ رِبعِيِّ بنِ حِرَاشٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ لَمْ يَكْذِبنِي ، قَالَ : وَكَانَ إِذَا قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ لَمْ يَكْذِبنِي ، رَأَيْنَا أَنَّهُ يَعْنِي حُذَيْفَةَ ، قَالَ : لَقِيَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جِبرِيلُ بأَحْجَارِ المِرَاءِ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ مِنْ أُمَّتِكَ الضَّعِيفَ ، فَمَنْ قَرَأَ عَلَى حَرْفٍ ، فَلَا يَتَحَوَّلْ مِنْهُ إِلَى غَيْرِهِ رَغْبةً عَنْهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Once, at a place called "Ahjar al-Mara", I met Jibreel (peace be upon him), so I said to him, "O Jibreel! I have been sent to an unlettered nation in which there are men and women, boys and girls, and very old people who do not know how to read anything." So he said, "The Noble Qur'an has been revealed upon seven letters."
