Hadith 23227

Abu Jubairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his uncles that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, there was no one among us who did not have one or two nicknames. When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would call someone by his nickname, we would say, "O Messenger of Allah! He dislikes this name." Upon this, the following verse was revealed: "Do not insult one another by using different nicknames."
