It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) came in the morning in a very pleasant mood, and cheerfulness was visible on his face. We mentioned this state to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said: "Why should it not be so? For last night my Lord came to me in a most beautiful form and said, 'O Muhammad!' I replied, 'Here I am at Your service, my Lord, and all good is in Your hands.' He said, 'Over what are the angels of the Highest Assembly disputing?' I replied, 'My Lord, I do not know.' (This question and answer happened two or three times.) Then my Lord placed His palms between my shoulders, and I felt the coolness of His touch in my chest, and all things of the heavens and the earth became clear before me. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited the verse: 'And thus We showed Abraham...' After this, Allah again asked, 'O Muhammad! Over what are the angels of the Highest Assembly disputing?' I replied, 'About the expiations.' He said, 'What are the expiations?' I replied, 'Walking with one's feet to the Friday prayer, sitting in the mosque after the prayers, and completing ablution despite difficulties.' It was said, 'Whoever does these deeds will live a good life, die a good death, and will be cleansed of his sins as on the day his mother gave birth to him.' And the things that raise ranks are: the best speech, spreading peace, feeding others, and praying at night when people are asleep. Then He said, 'O Muhammad! When you pray, make this supplication: O Allah! I ask You for pure things, for protection from evil deeds, for love of the poor, and that You turn Your special attention to me. And when You intend a trial for the people, then grant me death before being afflicted by the trial.'"
