حَدَّثَنَا أَبو النَّضْرِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ اللَّهِ بنُ الْمُبارَكِ ، عَنْ عَبدِ الْحَمِيدِ بنِ صَيْفِيٍّ ، عَنْ أَبيهِ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ ، قَالَ : إِنَّ صُهَيْبا قَدِمَ عَلَى النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَبيْنَ يَدَيْهِ تَمْرٌ وَخُبزٌ ، قَالَ : " ادْنُ فَكُلْ " ، فَأَخَذَ يَأْكُلُ مِنَ التَّمْرِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ بعَيْنِكَ رَمَدًا " ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّمَا آكُلُ مِنَ النَّاحِيَةِ الْأُخْرَى ، قَالَ : فَتَبسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
It is narrated from the grandfather of Abdul Hameed bin Safi (may Allah have mercy on him) that once Hazrat Suhaib Roomi (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the service of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). At that time, there were dates and bread placed before the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Suhaib, "Come closer and eat." So he began to eat the dates. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do you not have an eye ailment?" He replied, "O Messenger of Allah! I am eating from the other side." Upon this, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled.
