It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared some of Umayyah’s poetry to be true. Once, Umayyah said this verse: “He is such a brave man that under his right foot is a bull, under his left foot is a vulture, and a lion is lying in wait.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “He has spoken the truth.” Similarly, once he recited these verses: “The sun rises at the end of every red night, and its color becomes like that of a rose flower. It refuses and does not rise again except as one who has been punished or flogged.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) affirmed this as well.
