Hadith 23123

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بنِ كُلَيْب ، عَنْ أَبيهِ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ مُزَيْنَةَ ، أَوْ جهينة ، قَالَ : كَانَ أَصْحَاب النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا كَانَ قَبلَ الْأَضْحَى بيَوْمٍ ، أَوْ بيَوْمَيْنِ أَعْطَوْا جَذَعَيْنِ ، وَأَخَذُوا ثَنِيًّا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الْجَذَعَةَ تُجْزِئُ مِمَّا تُجْزِئُ مِنْهُ الثَّنِيَّةُ " .
A man from Muzaina or Juhaina says that one or two days before Eid al-Adha, the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to give two six-month-old sheep and take one animal for the whole year. So the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever is sufficed by a one-year-old animal, a six-month-old animal will also suffice for him."
