Hadith 23117

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، وَحَجَّاجٌ , قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ عَبدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بنِ الْمِنْهَالِ ، أَوْ ابنِ مَسْلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ . قَالَ حَجَّاجٌ : عَنْ عَبدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَبي الْمِنْهَالِ بنِ مَسْلَمَةَ الْخُزَاعِيِّ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ , أَنّ النَّبيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِأَسْلَمَ : " صُومُوا الْيَوْمَ " ، قَالُوا : إِنَّا قَدْ أَكَلْنَا ، قَالَ : " صُومُوا بقِيَّةَ يَوْمِكُمْ " ، يَعْنِي يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ.
Abu Al-Minhāl Khuza'i (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his uncle that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said to the people of the tribe of Aslam on the day of Ashura (10th of Muharram): "Fast on this day." They said, "We have already eaten and drunk." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Do not eat or drink for the rest of the day."
