Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to set out on a journey, he would recite this supplication: «اَللّٰهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ وَالْخَلِيفَةُ فِي الْأَهْلِ اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ الضُّبْنَةِ فِي السَّفَرِ وَالْكَآبَةِ فِي الْمُنْقَلَبِ اَللّٰهُمَّ اطْوِ لَنَا الْأَرْضَ وَهَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا السَّفَرَ» "O Allah! You are my companion in travel and the guardian of my family in my absence. O Allah! I seek refuge with You from the hardship of travel and distress on return. O Allah! Fold the earth for us and make this journey easy for us." And when he intended to return, he would recite this supplication: «آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ» "We are returning with repentance, worshipping, and giving thanks to our Lord." And when he reached his family, he would say: «تَوْبًا تَوْبًا لِرَبِّنَا أَوْبًا لَا يُغَادِرُ عَلَيْنَا حَوْبًا» "We repent, turn to our Lord, and ask that He leaves no sin upon us."
