حَدَّثَنَا أَسْباطٌ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بنِ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ عَبدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بنِ الْبيْلَمَانِيِّ ، عَنْ بعْضِ أَصْحَاب النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قال : سمعت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول : " مَنْ تَاب إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَبلَ أَنْ يَمُوتَ بيَوْمٍ ، قَبلَ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ " ، قَالَ : فَحَدَّثَهُ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَاب النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ آخَرَ بهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ، فَقَالَ : أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْهُ ؟ قَالَ : قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : فَأَشْهَدُ أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " مَنْ تَاب إِلَى اللَّهِ قَبلَ أَنْ يَمُوتَ بنِصْفِ يَوْمٍ ، قَبلَ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ " ، قَالَ : فَحَدَّثَنِيهَا رَجُلٌ آخَرُ مِنْ أَصْحَاب النَّبيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : فَأَشْهَدُ أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " مَنْ تَاب إِلَى اللَّهِ قَبلَ أَنْ يَمُوتَ بضَحْوَةٍ ، قَبلَ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ " ، قَالَ : فَحَدَّثَهُ رَجُلًا آخَرَ مِنْ أَصْحَاب رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : آَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْهُ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : فَأَشْهَدُ أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " مَنْ تَاب قَبلَ أَنْ يُغَرْغِرَ نَفَسُهُ ، قَبلَ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ " .
Abdur Rahman bin Bilmani (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once four companions of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered together somewhere. One of them said, "I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that if a servant repents even one day before his death, Allah Almighty accepts his repentance." The second asked, "Did you really hear the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say this?" The first replied, "Yes!" The second said, "I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that if a servant repents even half a day before his death, Allah Almighty accepts his repentance." The third asked, "Did you really hear the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say this?" The second replied in the affirmative. Upon this, the third said, "I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that if a servant repents even a quarter of a day before his death, Allah Almighty also accepts his repentance." The fourth asked, "Did you really hear the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say this?" As long as the pangs of death have not overtaken the servant, Allah Almighty accepts his repentance until that time.
