Hadith 23065

حَدَّثَنَا ابنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ يَعْنِي ابنَ حَكِيمٍ ، أَخْبرَنِي تَمِيمُ بنُ يَزِيدَ مَوْلَى بنِي زَمْعَةَ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَاب رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : خَطَبنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ، ثِنْتَانِ مَنْ وَقَاهُ اللَّهُ شَرَّهُمَا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ " ، قَالَ : فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، لَا تُخْبرْنَا مَا هُمَا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " اثْنَانِ مَنْ وَقَاهُ اللَّهُ شَرَّهُمَا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ " ، حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَتْ الثَّالِثَةُ أَجْلَسَهُ أَصْحَاب رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالُوا : تَرَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُرِيدُ يُبشِّرُنَا ، فَتَمْنَعُهُ ؟ ! فَقَالَ : " إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَتَّكِلَ النَّاسُ ، فَقَالَ : " ثِنْتَانِ مَنْ وَقَاهُ اللَّهُ شَرَّهُمَا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ : مَا بيْنَ لَحْيَيْهِ ، وَمَا بيْنَ رِجْلَيْهِ " .
It is narrated from a Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon to us and said: "O people! There are two things; whoever Allah saves from their evil will enter Paradise." Upon this, an Ansari man stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Do not tell us about those two things (lest we are unable to act upon them)." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated his statement, and the Ansari again said the same thing. The third time, his companions stopped him and said, "The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wants to give us glad tidings; you are seeing this and yet you are stopping him?" He said, "I fear that people might rely solely on this." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are two things; whoever Allah saves from their evil will enter Paradise: one is that which is between the two jaws, and the other is that which is between the two legs."
