It is narrated from Hazrat Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) fell ill with his final illness, he said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! My father is a soft-hearted man." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) again said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer. You women are like the women who came to Yusuf (Joseph), peace be upon him, in Egypt." Thus, Hazrat Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) led the people in prayer during the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
