It is narrated from Hazrat Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Whoever grants respite to a destitute debtor will receive the reward of giving charity equal to that amount for every day. Then, on another occasion, I heard the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Whoever grants respite to a destitute debtor will receive the reward of giving double charity for every day. I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! Earlier I heard you mention a single reward, and then a double reward?" The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, replied: Before the repayment of the debt, he will receive the reward of giving charity equal to that amount for every day, and after the repayment of the debt, for granting respite, he will receive double the reward.
