حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُيَيْنَةُ بنُ عَبدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبيهِ ، عَنْ برَيْدَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ ، قَالَ : خَرَجْتُ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ لِحَاجَةٍ ، فَإِذَا أَنَا بالنَّبيِّ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاة وَالسَّلَامُ يَمْشِي بيْنَ يَدَيَّ ، فَأَخَذَ بيَدِي فَانْطَلَقْنَا نَمْشِي جَمِيعًا ، فَإِذَا نَحْنُ بيْنَ أَيْدِينَا برَجُلٍ يُصَلِّي يُكْثِرُ الرُّكُوعَ وَالسُّجُودَ ، فَقَالَ النَّبيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَتُرَاهُ يُرَائِي ؟ " ، فَقُلْتُ : اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، فَتَرَكَ يَدِي مِنْ يَدِهِ ، ثُمَّ جَمَعَ بيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، فَجَعَلَ يُصَوِّبهُمَا وَيَرْفَعُهُمَا ، وَيَقُولُ : " عَلَيْكُمْ هَدْيًا قَاصِدًا ، عَلَيْكُمْ هَدْيًا قَاصِدًا ، عَلَيْكُمْ هَدْيًا قَاصِدًا ، فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ يُشَادَّ هَذَا الدِّينَ يَغْلِبهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Buraidah Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day I went out walking and saw that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had turned his face to one side. I thought perhaps he was going to relieve himself, so I turned aside to go away. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw me and gestured towards me. When I reached the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he took my hand and we both started walking to one side. Suddenly, we came near a man who was praying and performing many bowings and prostrations. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do you think he is a show-off?" I replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) let go of my hand, brought both his palms together, raised them to the level of his shoulders and lowered them, and said three times, "Make moderation obligatory upon yourself, for whoever is harsh in matters of religion is overcome."
