حَدَّثَنَا أَبو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بنِ عُبيْدَةَ ، عَنِ ابنِ برَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ أَبيهِ ، قَالَ : بعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا قَدِمْنَا ، قَالَ : " كَيْفَ رَأَيْتُمْ صَحَابةَ صَاحِبكُمْ ؟ " ، قَالَ : فَإِمَّا شَكَوْتُهُ ، أَوْ شَكَاهُ غَيْرِي ، قَالَ : فَرَفَعْتُ رَأْسِي وَكُنْتُ رَجُلًا مِكْبابا ، قَالَ : فَإِذَا النَّبيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَدْ احْمَرَّ وَجْهُهُ ، قَالَ : وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : " مَنْ كُنْتُ وَلِيَّهُ ، فَعَلِيٌّ وَلِيُّهُ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I participated with Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in jihad in Yemen. I faced some harshness from him. When I presented myself before the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I mentioned Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and spoke of him with some deficiency in his honor. I saw that the color of the blessed face of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was changing. Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O Buraidah! Do I not have more right over the believers than their own selves?" I said, "Why not, O Messenger of Allah!" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Whoever I am beloved to, Ali should also be beloved to him."
