Hadith 22943

حَدَّثَنَا الْأَسْوَدُ بنُ عَامِرٍ ، أَخْبرَنَا أَبو إِسْرَائِيلَ ، عَنْ حَارِثِ بنِ حَصِيرَةَ ، عَنِ ابنِ برَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ أبيه ، قَالَ : دَخَلَ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ ، فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ يَتَكَلَّمُ ، فَقَالَ برَيْدَةُ : يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ ، فَائْذَنْ لِي فِي الْكَلَامِ ؟ فَقَالَ : نَعَمْ ، وَهُوَ يَرَى أَنَّهُ سَيَتَكَلَّمُ بمِثْلِ مَا قَالَ الْآخَرُ ، فَقَالَ برَيْدَةُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ أَشْفَعَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَدَدَ مَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ وَمَدَرَةٍ " ، قَالَ : أَفَتَرْجُوهَا أَنْتَ يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ ، وَلَا يَرْجُوهَا عَلِيُّ بنُ أَبي طَالِب رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ؟ !.
Hazrat Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) once went to Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). There was a man speaking there. Hazrat Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Muawiyah! Do you permit me to speak?" He replied, "Yes!" He thought that he would say something like the first man, but Hazrat Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: I hope that on the Day of Resurrection I will intercede for as many people as there are trees and soil on the earth. O Muawiyah! Can you hope for this intercession and Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) cannot hope for it?"
