Hadith 22941

حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بنُ الْحُباب ، حَدَّثَنِي حُسَيْنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبدُ اللَّهِ بنُ برَيْدَةَ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَأَبي عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ ، فَأَجْلَسَنَا عَلَى الْفُرُشِ ، ثُمَّ أُتِينَا بالطَّعَامِ ، فَأَكَلْنَا ، ثُمَّ أُتِينَا بالشَّرَاب ، فَشَرِب مُعَاوِيَةُ ، ثُمَّ نَاوَلَ أَبي ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " مَا شَرِبتُهُ مُنْذُ حَرَّمَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " ، ثم قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ : كُنْتُ أَجْمَلَ شَباب قُرَيْشٍ ، وَأَجْوَدَهُ ثَغْرًا ، وَمَا شَيْءٌ كُنْتُ أَجِدُ لَهُ لَذَّةً كَمَا كُنْتُ أَجِدُهُ وَأَنَا شَاب غَيْرُ اللَّبنِ ، أَوْ إِنْسَانٍ حَسَنِ الْحَدِيثِ يُحَدِّثُنِي.
Hazrat Abdullah bin Buraidah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that once I and my father went to Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). He seated us on a bed, then food was presented which we ate. Then (nabidh) was brought to drink, which Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) drank first, then handed the vessel to my father. He said, "Since the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade it, I have not drunk it." Then Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "I was the most handsome youth of the Quraysh and had the best teeth among them. Other than milk or the company of people who spoke good words, I did not find pleasure in anything greater than these."
