Hadith 229

(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ الْأُصَيْلِعَ يَعْنِي عُمَرَ يُقَبِّلُ الْحَجَرَ ، وَيَقُولُ : إِنِّي لَأُقَبِّلُكَ ، وَأَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ حَجَرٌ لَا تَنْفَعُ وَلَا تَضُرُّ ، وَلَوْلَا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُقَبِّلُكَ ، لَمْ أُقَبِّلْكَ " .
Abdullah bin Sarjis says that once I saw Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) kissing the Black Stone and addressing it, saying, "I know that you are a stone; you can neither benefit nor harm anyone. But I am still kissing you. If I had not seen the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kissing you, I would never have kissed you."
