حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ ، حَدَّثَنَا صَفْوَانُ ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ ، أَنَّ أَبَا مَالِكٍ الْأَشْعَرِيَّ لَمَّا حَضَرَتْهُ الْوَفَاةُ ، قَالَ : يَا سَامِعَ الْأَشْعَرِيِّينَ لِيُبَلِّغْ الشَّاهِدُ مِنْكُمْ الْغَائِبَ ، إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " حُلْوَةُ الدُّنْيَا مُرَّةُ الْآخِرَةِ ، وَمُرَّةُ الدُّنْيَا حُلْوَةُ الْآخِرَةِ " .
When the time of departure from this world for Hazrat Abu Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) drew near, he said: O listening Ash'aris! Those among you who are present should convey this message to those who are absent: I heard the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say: The sweetness of this world is the bitterness of the Hereafter, and the bitterness of this world is the sweetness of the Hereafter.
