حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي حُسَيْنٍ ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَنَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ : يَأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لا تَسْأَلُوا عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ إِنْ تُبْدَ لَكُمْ تَسُؤْكُمْ سورة المائدة آية 101 ، قَالَ : فَنَحْنُ نَسْأَلُهُ إِذْ قَالَ : " إِنَّ لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عِبَادٌ لَيْسُوا بِأَنْبِيَاءَ وَلَا شُهَدَاءَ ، يَغْبِطُهُمْ النَّبِيُّونَ وَالشُّهَدَاءُ لِمَقْعَدِهِمْ وَقُرْبِهِمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ " ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Malik Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was present in the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when this verse was revealed: "O you who believe, do not ask about things..." At that time, we were asking questions to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Meanwhile, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that there are some servants of Allah who will neither be prophets nor martyrs, but on the Day of Resurrection, due to their closest seat to Allah, even the prophets and martyrs will envy them.
