حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ , حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ لَا أَتَّهِمُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا رَأَى الْهِلَالَ ، قَالَ : " اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ، لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ هَذَا الشَّهْرِ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ الْقَدَرِ ، وَمِنْ سُوءِ الْحَشْرِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the new moon of the first (of the month), he would say Allahu Akbar, Alhamdulillah, and La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah, and then make this supplication: O Allah! I ask You for the good of this month, and I seek refuge in You from the evil decrees of fate and from a bad outcome.
