حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُطَرِّفٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الصُّنَابِحِيِّ ، قَالَ : زَعَمَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ أَنَّ الْوَتْرَ وَاجِبٌ ! فَقَالَ عُبَادَةُ بْنُ الصَّامِتِ : كَذَبَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ ، أَشْهَدُ لَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " خَمْسُ صَلَوَاتٍ افْتَرَضَهُنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ ، مَنْ أَحْسَنَ وُضُوءَهُنَّ ، وَصَلَاتَهُنَّ لِوَقْتِهِنَّ ، فَأَتَمَّ رُكُوعَهُنَّ وَسُجُودَهُنَّ وَخُشُوعَهُنَّ ، كَانَ لَهُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَهْدٌ أَنْ يَغْفِرَ لَهُ ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ ، فَلَيْسَ لَهُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَهْدٌ ، إِنْ شَاءَ غَفَرَ لَهُ ، وَإِنْ شَاءَ عَذَّبَهُ " .
Mukhaddaji, who belonged to Banu Kinana, says: There was an Ansari man in Syria whose kunyah was Abu Muhammad. He used to say that Witr is obligatory (fard). Mukhaddaji went to Hazrat Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: Abu Muhammad considers Witr to be obligatory. Hazrat Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Abu Muhammad is mistaken. I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Allah has made five prayers obligatory upon His servants. Whoever performs them without neglecting anything from them and does not consider any part of them insignificant, Allah has promised to admit him to Paradise. And whoever does not perform them in this way, then Allah has no promise with him; if He wills, He will punish him, and if He wills, He will forgive him.
