حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ الْغَازِ ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ نُسَيٍّ ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ ؟ " قَالُوا : الَّذِي يُقَاتِلُ فَيُقْتَلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ ، الْقَتِيلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى شَهِيدٌ ، وَالْمَطْعُونُ شَهِيدٌ ، وَالْمَبْطُونُ شَهِيدٌ ، وَالْمَرْأَةُ تَمُوتُ بِجُمْعٍ شَهِيدٌ " , يَعْنِي : النُّفَسَاءَ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked the companions (may Allah be pleased with them), "Whom do you consider a martyr among yourselves?" They replied, "The one who fights in the way of Allah and is killed." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "If it were so, then there would be very few martyrs in my Ummah. The one who is killed in the way of Allah is also a martyr, and the one who dies in a plague, in a disease of the stomach, and a woman who dies in the state of childbirth is also a martyr."
