It is narrated from Hazrat Safwan (may Allah be pleased with him) that once I was with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey, and at night I had the opportunity to observe the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Isha prayer and then slept. He woke up at midnight, recited the last ten verses of Surah Al-Imran, used the miswak, performed ablution, and stood up to pray two rak'ahs. Now I do not know whether the standing (qiyam) of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was longer or the bowing and prostration. Then he slept again, woke up after a short while, and repeated the same actions, and continued in this manner until he had performed eleven rak'ahs.
