حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ كُلَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ أَخْبَرَهُ ، قَالَ : خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي جِنَازَةٍ فَلَمَّا رَجَعْنَا لَقِيَنَا دَاعِي امْرَأَةٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّ فُلَانَةَ تَدْعُوكَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ إِلَى طَعَامٍ فَانْصَرَفَ ، فَانْصَرَفْنَا مَعَهُ ، فَجَلَسْنَا مَجَالِسَ الْغِلْمَانِ مِنْ آبَائِهِمْ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ ، ثُمَّ جِيءَ بِالطَّعَامِ ، فَوَضَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدَهُ ، وَوَضَعَ الْقَوْمُ أَيْدِيَهُمْ فَفَطِنَ لَهُ الْقَوْمُ ، وَهُوَ يَلُوكُ لُقْمَتَهُ ، لَا يُجِيزُهَا ، فَرَفَعُوا أَيْدِيَهُمْ وَغَفَلُوا عَنَّا ، ثُمَّ ذَكَرُوا فَأَخَذُوا بِأَيْدِينَا ، فَجَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ يَضْرِبُ اللُّقْمَةَ بِيَدِهِ حَتَّى تَسْقُطَ ، ثُمَّ أَمْسَكُوا بِأَيْدِينَا ، يَنْظُرُونَ مَا يَصْنَعُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَفَظَهَا ، فَأَلْقَاهَا ، فَقَالَ : " أَجِدُ لَحْمَ شَاةٍ أُخِذَتْ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِ أَهْلِهَا " , فَقَامَتْ الْمَرْأَةُ ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّهُ كَانَ فِي نَفْسِي أَنْ أَجْمَعَكَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ عَلَى طَعَامٍ ، فَأَرْسَلْتُ إِلَى الْبَقِيعِ ، فَلَمْ أَجِدْ شَاةً تُبَاعُ ، وَكَانَ عَامِرُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ابْتَاعَ شَاةً أَمْسِ مِنَ الْبَقِيعِ ، فَأَرْسَلْتُ إِلَيْهِ أَنْ ابْتُغِيَ لِي شَاةٌ فِي الْبَقِيعِ فَلَمْ تُوجَدْ ، فَذُكِرَ لِي أَنَّكَ اشْتَرَيْتَ شَاةً ، فَأَرْسِلْ بِهَا إِلَيَّ ، فَلَمْ يَجِدْهُ الرَّسُولُ ، وَوَجَدَ أَهْلَهُ ، فَدَفَعُوهَا إِلَى رَسُولِي , فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَطْعِمُوهَا الْأُسَارَى " .
It is narrated from an Ansari companion (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we set out with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) for a funeral. When we returned, a messenger from a woman of the Quraysh met us and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Such-and-such woman has invited you and all those with you for a meal." The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) went there and we also went along. When we arrived, we sat down and some people's children sat in front of them. After a short while, food was brought and the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) put his hand in it. The people also extended their hands. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) took a morsel and began to chew it, but it would not go down his throat. The people understood and withdrew their hands. They had become heedless of us, but when they noticed, they also held our hands. A man tried to break a morsel, but it fell from his hand. Then, after stopping our hands, they began to look at the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to see what he would do. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) tried to chew it but then spat it out and said, "It seems that this goat was taken without the permission of its owner?" Upon hearing this, the woman stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I thought in my heart to gather you and all those with you for a meal. So I sent a man towards Baqi', but no goat was found there. However, 'Amir bin Abi Waqqas had bought a goat from Baqi' just last evening. I sent him a message that a goat was sought for me in Baqi', but it could not be found. I learned that you have also bought a goat; please send it to me." The messenger did not find him at his house, but his family was present; they gave the goat to my messenger. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Feed this food to the prisoners."
