Samurah bin Sahm, may Allah have mercy on him, says that I went to visit Hazrat Abu Hashim bin Utbah, may Allah be pleased with him, who had been wounded by a spear, when one day Hazrat Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with him, also came to visit him. Hazrat Abu Hashim, may Allah be pleased with him, began to weep. Hazrat Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with him, asked, "Why are you crying? Is it because of pain somewhere, or do you desire more of worldly life?" He replied, "It is neither of these things. Rather, the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, took a promise from us—if only I had fulfilled it! The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'It may be that you will be given so much wealth that it could be distributed among many nations, but for you, in gathering wealth, a servant and a mount for striving in the path of Allah should suffice.' But now I see that I have accumulated much wealth."
