حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِقُرَيْشٍ : " إِنَّ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ لَا يَزَالُ فِيكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ وُلَاتُهُ حَتَّى تُحْدِثُوا أَعْمَالًا ، فَإِذَا فَعَلْتُمْ ذَلِكَ ، سَلَّطَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ شِرَارَ خَلْقِهِ ، فَالْتَحَوْكُمْ كَمَا يُلْتَحَى الْقَضِيبُ " . .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Mas'ud Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the Quraysh: "This authority will remain among you and you will continue to rule over it as long as you do not introduce new innovations. When you begin to do so, Allah will impose His worst creation upon you, and they will strip you just as wood is stripped."
