حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَضْرِبُ غُلَامًا لَهُ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " وَاللَّهِ لَلَّهُ أَقْدَرُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْكَ عَلَيْهِ " , قَالَ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، فَإِنِّي أُعْتِقُهُ لِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day he was beating his slave when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "By Allah! You have as much power over this slave as Allah has more power over you." He submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! I free him for the sake of Allah's pleasure."
