It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The one who should lead the people in prayer is the one among them who is the best reciter of the Qur'an; if they are equal in recitation, then the one who has the most knowledge of the Sunnah should lead; if they are equal in that, then the one who migrated first should lead; and if they are equal in migration, then the oldest among them should lead. No one should lead prayer in another person's house or domain except with his permission, and likewise, no one should sit in a place of honor in someone else's house except with his permission.
