قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ : وَجَدْتُ فِي كِتَابِ أَبِي بِخَطِّ يَدِهِ , وَأَظُنُّ أَنِّي قَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنَ الْحَكَمِ : حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ مُوسَى , حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ , عَنْ مُطَّرِحِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ الْكِنَانِيِّ , عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَحْرٍ , عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَزِيدَ , عَنْ الْقَاسِمِ , عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ , أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَيُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَلُ ؟ قَالَ : " ظِلُّ فُسْطَاطٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ , أَوْ خِدْمَةُ خَادِمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ , أَوْ طَرُوقَةُ فَحْلٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ " .
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "Which charity is the best?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Providing shade of a tent in the way of Allah, or serving a warrior for the sake of Allah, or letting someone ride a male animal for the sake of Allah."
