It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) met Ma'iz bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "What is the reality of the matter that has reached me about you?" He asked: "What has reached you about me?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It has reached me that you have committed a sin with the slave woman of such-and-such family?" He confirmed it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him back, until he confessed about himself four times. Only then did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) order him to be stoned.
